Opportunities:
Childcare
Childcare is needed at various times to allow clients to apply for jobs and attend vocational classes in the evenings.
Receiving Center
Availability is Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays during summer months.
Volunteers will sort clothing for quality and style and separate in sorting bins for pants, shirts, shorts, etc.
Sorting Center (Basement)
Available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. during summer months.
Volunteers will sort housewares such as dishes, baby items, books, dolls, electronics, and pictures and clean and prepare items for sale. Areas that need special attention are toys; checking pieces, testing and cleaning to prepare for shipment to a Mission Mart store.
Food Services
Available Monday through Saturday in two shifts. Lunch shift M-F is from 11:45 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and starts at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday's. Dinner shift M-F is from 4:45 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and starts at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday's.
Volunteers will help prepare, serve and clean up after meals.
Adopt-A-Meal: Volunteer groups or individuals can underwrite, plan, prepare, serve and clean up after meals with the assistance and supervision of our Food Services Manager.

ZINC THE ZEBRA
For children (boys & girls) ages 6-8 teaches self love, diversity,
tolerance, love and fun activities / crafts. Meets weekly. (Girl Scout Troop)
MOM’S DAY OUT
Volunteer provide child care so Mom can go job hunting, etc.
Twice weekly, 3-4 hour block of time.
ADOPT-A-KID
ISU Sorority/Fraternity students pair up one-on-one with child.
In this program the child/student remains paired for their years at ISU.
BIG BROTHER / BIG SISTER
Like Adopt-A-Kid but usually shorter-term (1 semester or school
year). Criminal Justice students seem to like this program and choose preteen and teen HSHM children to mentor.
BOOKS ARE FUN
Story time, homework / tutoring, book club that meets weekly to discuss book.
MOM’S GROUP
Get moms involved in positive activities / support systems outside of HSHM. Sometimes coffee clutches. Gives moms some mom-to-mom time. Meets weekly.
COMPUTER CLASS
Business & Education and Management Students, retired teachers conduct weekly classes. Other volunteers provide childcare so parents can attend classes.
OTHER CLASSES
Opportunities are ongoing for teaching a variety of subjects (including Bible classes / devotionals) to Threshold students.
JOB SEARCH
Students and individual volunteers canvas local job opportunities and maintain a current list. This can also utilize volunteers who want to provide transportation to / from job interviews.
DAY OF BEAUTY
Volunteer provides make up and beauty for adult females. Nail Care, Hair Care, Makeup, Skincare Spa, beauty products. Opportunity to share secrets of outward (and inward) beauty.
LITTLE HANDS / BIG HEARTS
Student group provides ticket to local venues (movies, children
museum, plays, etc.) and transport residents to and from.
HEALTH FAIRS
Student nurses, social workers, healthcare volunteers provide multi-disciplinary day-long education, information, screenings, and referrals for residents.
CARNIVALS
Large groups provide food, games, entertainment, prizes and conduct fun events for all age residents.
DRIVERS
Retired people, church members, students, companies, etc who want to help meet our need for drivers to transport Threshold to and from shopping at Wal-Mart and Friday appointments. They can also be used to pick up donated food and goods to bring back to HSHM.
ADOPT-A-MEAL
Groups prepare food off-campus (or purchase ready-made) and bring to HSHM at meal time. They are also responsible for preparing the serving line, serving, and cleaning up after.
